WOW! What a CONCERT! Last night, our high school (9-12) instrumental pops concert was incredible! We have some truly talented and hard working kids. Huge shoutout to them and their performance last night.

SHOUT OUT to our HONOR BAND participants from last weekend at UNI. These students who represented the HD CAL high school band at the Northern Festival of Bands held at UNI last weekend. They rehearsed throughout Friday and Saturday and performed a concert on Saturday afternoon. They were joined by some of the finest musicians in Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois. They were able to work with UNI faculty as well as guest conductors Reginald McDonald from Tennessee State University and Celine Pellmont from Mulhouse, France. GO BULLDOGS!

Last week (Feb. 6-10) was National School Counselor week. We have two amazing counselors here at H-D! THANK YOU Mrs. Krull, and Mr. Carr for ALL you do for our kids, staff, and community! Truly represent #BulldogPride

We had four (4) students who had their artwork selected to displayed in the Jordan Creek Mall for Youth Art month! They are Rylee Keehn, Carlie Franke, Alexis Sosa, and Alexa Castillo! We have so many great kids doing so many great things! It's always a GREAT day to be a #Bulldog

Three students from H-D were accepted into the Macnider Show in Mason City, IA. This art will be displayed in March at the museum with other students from northern Iowa. Addison Gorder- 2nd Grade- Snowy Owl with Santa Hat Gio Aguilar- 2nd Grade- Snowday Self-Portrait Garrett Ellingson- 3rd Grade- Birch Trees Landscape One student was selected for Youth Art Month from Southside. Rhowyn Byrnes created a snowy owl piece that will be displayed at Jordan Creek in Des Moines, IA for the entire month of March with others selected from around the state.

LOTS of GREAT things going on over this last week! Speech sent 14 of 18 groups onto state (Feb. 4 in Waterloo). We had three (3) NCC conference wrestling champs. And then we had six (6) kids selected for Meistersinger Honor Choir: Ben Baird, Jason Cady, Esmeralda Calles, Colleen Pals, Katie Hilton, and Avalon Hobson (not pictured Colleen Pals). A HUGE CONGRATS goes out to Katie Hilton for becoming a FINALIST in the "Know Your Constitution" contest! Katie Hilton completed questions and wrote an essay and was nominated as a finalist. She, along with her teacher Lori Millard, are invited to attend a recognition ceremony on January 20th! GREAT WORK!

Our HS kids were lucky enough to get a lunch with our elementary students last Thursday (Dec. 15). This is part of service learning projects we are doing throughout the year! So many GREAT memories made! Love this for our kids. #BulldogPride

Although we have already kicked the season off - in remarkable fashion - it is with great excitement that we introduce our new head basketball coach at H-D-CAL. We are excited to have Brian Niesen as the Head Coach of the Boys Basketball program. Brian has already demonstrated strong leadership, a willingness to be involved in all things Bulldog, and brings a level of excitement to school and community. Please welcome, Brian! Friday, Nov. 11, 2022 we celebrated Veteran's Day with a truly incredible program. A thank you to Lori Millard, for putting this together. Thank you to Isaac Vosburg and Katie Hilton for their work in reading and presenting. Most of all a thank you VETERAN'S for your service!

FINAL DAY to see "Spelling Bee" the musical, put on by our High School Staff and students at Church of the Living Word (CLW) today! Final showing is at 3:00pm. Here is a sneak peak of the great work put in by our students and staff!

Our staff is ROCKING IT! Working on Differentiation for our students! Continue the path of progress! Thank you to our staff for investing time.

Friday at our High School we will have a Veteran's Day Program put together in the afternoon. We are going to broadcast via Bulldog TV and we are fortunate to have KLMJ airing it as well! Truly incredible program to celebrate our service members!
