Like most school districts in Iowa, H-D must take action to reduce spending. What suggestions do you have to save money without impacting learning?

Close two buildings
Stop paying mileage building to building
Cut staff
Consolidate
Share programs with CAL
Cut/freeze administration salaries
Save money by going 15 minutes before, 15 minutes after to have 5 days off (teacher inservice) lunches, transportation etc.
School vehicles – Cut (supt.)
Freeze on salaries (2 years) –Administrators
Sharing supt. with CAL
Cut summer band, summer FFA, all summer educational programs.
Evaluate # of coaches necessary for EA sport.
Raise taxes
Review, analyze admin costs with similar districts
More courses on Internet (reduce teachers)
No more Sr. Citizen free tickets
Share Administrators supt. and principals
One entry gate at events
Booster club purchase uniforms
Baseball – play double headers, play closer teams, reduce coaching staff
Conduct energy audit and create an energy policy
No vehicles for administrators- use school vehicles
Review fieldtrips and cost
Charge for productions (concerts) and rent out facilities
Quit paying teachers mileage, traveling between buildings
Eliminate supt. car, cell phone and credit cards (district expenses)
Consider sharing tech staff with other districts to reduce staff cost
Increase class sizes (up to 24)
Freeze wages for all staff
Freeze benefits for staff
Spring soccer and tennis
Sharing soccer and tennis if isn’t that costing mileage? (this is enough for two teams)
Three buses to/from Dumont reduce to two to cut costs
17 employees travel…who pays…why?
Sharing w/Cal wouldn’t that be the same mileage expense?
1 superintendent and 4-5 Principals why not share admin.
Eliminate car/gas for supt.
Follow sup’s rec. that provides stability with number of teachers to keep… closing schools would be a positive least impact on learning

School should not have to pay for uniforms – or maintain them – use booster club for this.
