Welcome to Hampton-Dumont Middle School 

In December 2007 Hampton-Dumont initiated a school-wide behavior program entitled Positive Behavior Supports or P.B.S.  The staff went through extensive training with AEA 267 staff during the fall of 2007 to prepare a behavior plan and write lessons concerning teaching our students how to act in certain areas of the building.  Year one of the project focused on teaching the students appropriate conduct in the hallways, restrooms, lunchrooms, commons, pods, sidewalks, bus stops and buses.  Year two (2008-09) will focus on changing behavior in the classrooms.

PBS focuses on teaching positive, correct behavior with rewards provided when students are "caught" interacting positively.  The rewards vary from verbal praise to extrinsic rewards such as food certificates or movie passes.  Negative behaviors are corrected and documented as well, however, the focus is on encouraging the students to choose to do the "right" thing and not act out for negative attention.

The students have embraced PBS and enjoy the rewards as well as the quieter, calmer environment in our school.  The program will positively continue throughout the 2008-09 school year.--Mr. Wempen
