February 2010 National Merit Scholor Finalist NEW! Congratulations to Evan Voelker who has recently been named a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship. Regional Spelling Bee Congratulations to Triston Shirk for earning 2nd place at the regional Spelling Bee in Clear Lake and also to Rebecca Buchanan for placing in the top 5! All the students did a great job representing H-D at the event! Geography Bee Congratulations to Allan Teggatz who is the winner of the National Geographic Society Geography Bee at Hampton-Dumont Middle School. Runner-up was Michaela Henrichs (8th grade), and Alex Sackville (7th Grade) came in third. Allan, an eighth grader, will advance to the next level of competition to determine state competitors. All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college schalarship, at the national competition in Washington, D.C. Show Choir Contest Congratulations to the Hampton-Dumont High School Show Choir on a great performance at State Contest on Monday, February 1. They earned a Division II rating, and were only 1 point shy of a Division I. January 2010 5/6th Grade Honor Choir Congratulations to those selected to participate in the 5/6 grade Honor Choir this year: Bekah Christiansen, Macy Scheideman, Abby McKee, Robert Alert, Katie Wempen, Gabby Tielke, Jesse Castorena, Will Alert. Regional Spelling Bee Geography Bee Congratulations to the following students for advancing to the next round of the Geography Bee. December 2009 H-D Jazz I Congratulations to Hampton-Dumont Jazz I. On Saturday they performed in the North Central Iowa Bandmaster's District Jazz Festival and won the Class 3A competition. They now qualify for the Iowa Jazz Championships which will take place on April 13 in Des Moines. Jazz II also performed at the festival on Saturday and did a wonderful job. Many individuals from both bands were recognized as outstanding soloists by the judges. Those receiving outstanding soloist awards were: Kayla Welsher, Treyton Craig, Ansley Katz, Mitch Vetter, and the saxophone section from Jazz II. Jazz I soloists who were recognized as outstanding included: Evan Voelker, Ben Ady, Trevor Green, Morgan Katz and Chris Huling. November 2009 Post-Season Athletics Honors The following student/athletes recieved post season honors for fall athletics: Volleyball: 2nd Team All NCC - Paige Shafrath, Molly Schimp, 3rd Team All NCC- Chandra Hampton Football: 1st Team All District - Ethan Viet (unanimous), Ryan Chaney, Patrick Hansen, James Perez, Evan Voelker (unanimous), Jace Simpson, Second Team All District - Wesley Harms, Third Team INA All State - Evan Voelker, Academic All-District - Evan Voelker, Slater Johansen, Casey Heilskov, Uriah Hansen, Jordan McLennan, Sam Showalter, Ethan Viet, Tyler Van Dyke, Isaac Hanson Congratulations to these athletes and their coaches. October 2009 All State Music Festival Congratulations to the 13 vocal students who were selected to the 2009 All-State Festival Choir. Those selected were seniors Pascale Bruns-2 years, Connor Butson-4 years, Ariel Grote-4 years, Sarah Owen-1 year vocal and 1 year band, Tyler Van Dyke-3 years; juniors Ben Ady-1 year, Ethan Bettenga-1 year, Kimberly Burman 3-years, Carter Collins 1-year, Kiersten Sorenson-2 years; sophomores Rebekah Anderson-1 year, Taylor Owen 1-year, and freshman Andrew Sorenson. Congratulations to Maggie Voelker and Morgan Katz for being accepted into the prestigious Iowa All-State Band this past Saturday. This will be Morgan's third year of acceptance and Maggie became one of a very small percentage of Iowa High School musicians to be accepted into All-State all 4 years of high school. Mackenzie Wearda was also selected as an alternate to the All-State Band. Congratulations! Football Playoffs Congratulations to the Bulldog football team! Their win over Forest City, Friday, October 23, earned them a spot in the Class 3A football playoffs. The Bulldogs will play Carroll at Carroll on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:000 PM. Way to go, Bulldogs! NICBA Honor Band Several Hampton-Dumont Middle School instrumental students have been selected for the NICBA Honor Band on November 4. These students are among the top instrumental students in north central Iowa. They are: Kierra Green - Trombone, Jacob Jungck - Baritone, Kyle Kent - Alto Sax, Brenna Menning - Flute, Kelly Nee - Flute, Whitney Ringleb - Trumpet, Christian Vallery - Alto Sax, Nic Vetter - Tuba, and Duncan Wood - Horn. Congratulations to them and to their director, Ms. Ann Kostelnick. Opus Honor Choir Congratulations to Bailey Condon, and Katie Wempen who were selected to perform in the Opus Honor Choirs at Ames in November. Bailey will sing with the 7th and 8th grade choir, and Katie with the 5th and 6th grade choir. Their instructors are Mrs. Chris Anderson, and Mrs. Bonnie Stewart. |
